DEVELOPMENT OF HIGH-QUALITY FOOD PROTEINS THROUGH THE SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION AND PROCESSING OF LEGUME CULTIVATION

PROTEINLEG kick off meeting

The members of the PROTEINLEG Operational Group have met virtually to hold a new meeting to coordinate and monitor the technical and dissemination activities in development. In November, several varieties of legumes that had been previously selected from the seed bank available to this entity were planted in the greenhouse at the MBG. Specifically, the growth of chickpeas, lupins and beans stands out. After these microplot trials, the next step will be to take them to larger tracts of land to evaluate the yield of those varieties selected for their greatest potential. For its part, CTC has already made a nutritional profile of the fruits that, together with the yield of the crop, will serve to make the first selection of varieties. At the same time, Almacenes Gamallo is already starting with the first designs of feed based on legumes. The PROTEINLEG innovation project involves the Fundación Empresa-Universidad Gallega (FEUGA), Ramiro Arnedo Semillas, Almacenes Gamallo, MIMIC SeaFood, the Biological Mission of Galicia (dependent on the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, MBG-CSIC) and the Centro Tecnolóxico da Carne (CTC).
